National purpose with local action
Next meeting: June 15, 2026 at 7:00pm (📣 with John A. Lawrence!)
Christ Lutheran Church
1701 Arroyo Chamiso Road, Santa Fe
62 years ago last Saturday, Walter Cronkite visited the Normandy coast with Dwight D. Eisenhower to recount the events of D-Day. Their interview sounds almost like a rebuke of the world we now live in.
These men came here [...] to storm these beaches, for one purpose only: not to gain anything for ourselves, not to fulfill any ambitions that America had for conquest, but just to preserve freedom - systems of self-government in the world.
– Dwight D. Eisenhower
We aren't facing the terrors that confronted those soldiers. But we are working toward a very similar goal: to preserve freedom and our system of self-government in the United States.

What folks are saying, of interest around here and elsewhere
Zorro Ranch Updates
Last week Bobi D wrote about the illegal destruction of the descansos outside the Zorro Ranch in late May; about their reconstruction on May 30; and about the destruction of the new memorial the very next day.

The cycle of reconstruction and vandalism continues. On Saturday, June 6, volunteers rebuilt the memorial again, this time in a location farther from the entrance to the ranch. And again, by the following morning, the latest work had been erased.
Undaunted
People who care about the memorials, and the souls to whom they're dedicated, aren't giving up. Here are a few examples of how ISF members are responding:
- Last week Melinda H and Donovan K wrote a letter to the editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican, calling on the NM State Attorney General to take action.
- Several who attended Saturday's BlueCD2 postcard party stayed late, writing to the Attorney General to urge him to investigate and prosecute the vandals.
- Steph B has announced a Save the Descansos Letter Writing ✍️campaign on Tuesday, June 16, 3-5 PM, at CHOMP Culinary Collective. Participants will write to state government representatives and officials to thank them for their support so far, and to encourage them to enforce existing laws. Paper, envelopes and stamps will be provided. Please attend if you can!

Project Jupiter - Public Comments Needed
Last week's newsletter told about the proposed new power source for Project Jupiter, a planned data center in Doña Ana County. Recap: it will emit more CO2 than Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Santa Fe combined. 🏭☁☁
Thanks to David B for sharing that the public comment period has begun for the new air quality permit application. Here's a link to the public comment form, which says that comments are due by July 6. 🖊️ (Note: this is in contrast to the Santa Fe New Mexican article's July 1 end date.)
NMED expects to decide on the application by August 25.

Protecting Public Lands
Rep. Gabe Vasquez has introduced a bill to stop members of Congress from including public land selloffs in unrelated budget bills – one more reason to support his re-election!
BlueCD2 New Mexico Postcard Writing Party
Speaking of Rep. Vasquez, last Saturday's postcard writing party was a big success! More than two dozen people pitched in to complete 1,000 postcards.

Many thanks to all who attended, and to Dave H and Steph B for making this happen!
🎤 Indivisible Santa Fe Radio
The latest episode from ISF Radio features an interview with Fred Nathan Jr. of Think New Mexico. Gary K and Donovan K talked to him about the ongoing shortage of health care providers in New Mexico, and about his analysis of the state's educational system.

Indivisible National
I am obsessed with Democratic congressional primaries, and I think you should be too. The world is on fire, but this is a place where I’m feeling and seeing energy and hope and optimism. So hear me out.
We got into primaries to transform the Democratic Party. We’re up against a fascist president constructing concentration camps around this country. In this political reality, we need a strong, unified opposition party. But instead we got Dem votes for Trump nominees, bipartisan anti-immigrant legislation, a pro-corruption crypto bill, and frittering away multiple opportunities to use congressional procedure to fight back.
After nearly a year of pushing Democratic leadership to lead against the fascist in the White House, we came to the conclusion that we simply had to replace a lot of that leadership. So we called for Schumer to step down and we launched the largest primary program we’ve ever done.
Here’s why:
- We need a party that wins. We can’t afford to head into November with the least popular version of the Democratic Party in modern American history. We need a party that convinces voters to believe in it again. Indivisible National endorsed candidates have committed to take on failed leadership and have refused campaign money from the bad actors subverting the party, like AI, Crypto, and AIPAC.
- We need a party that listens to constituents. Look, we gave the donors, corporate PACs, and political consultants a shot. They got us here. The new version of the Democratic Party needs to listen to its actual voters. Every candidate endorsed by Indivisible National must first receive overwhelming support from Indivisible leaders and members in the state or district.
- We need a party that fights. We’re going to take the House and possibly the Senate in November (manifest it), and we need that new Democratic Congress to hit the ground running. On January 3, we need subpoenas, hearings, investigations, and testimonies to start full force then. Every Indivisible endorsee has committed to an aggressive oversight agenda.
That sounds great, but none of it matters unless we win. Good thing we’re winning.
June is a big primary month, and we’re gonna have lots to celebrate. We headed into the month with Jasmine Clark in GA-13 crushing the opposition in her primary -- our first win! Last Tuesday, we notched our second with Analilia Mejia defeating AIPAC in NJ-11. Next up, Randy Villegas is looking likely to clinch the nomination against a corporate Dem cozy with the failed establishment leadership. Graham Platner, who came swinging for new leadership and an end to big-money politics, is on track to win his Maine Senate primary this week and is polling ahead of Susan Collins. Then later this month we’ve got Brad Lander crushing the crypto- and AIPAC-funded incumbent and Darializa Avila Chevalier pulling off a potentially incredible upset against senior establishment forces. And on the last day of the month, Julie Gonzales faces off against an incumbent who voted for more Trump nominees than any other non-Fetterman Democrat. And there are more to come.
We’re building a party that fights and wins, y’all. The best way to be part of this is to be part of this. Figure out how you want to participate and do it -- and if you’re looking for ideas, we’ve got some this week.
In solidarity,
Ezra Levin
Co-Executive Director, Indivisible
Your weekly to-dos
- URGENT: Call your Republican representative NOW and tell them to vote against billions more for ICE and Border Patrol. In the early hours of the morning on Friday, Republican senators (with the exception of Lisa Murkowski) passed Trump’s reconciliation bill, handing ICE and Border Patrol $70 billion to fund their kidnappings, concentration camps, and family separations. The House is expected to vote on the bill in the next 24 hours so if you have a Republican representative, please make a call now.
- Tell your Members of Congress to use their leverage to remove Trump’s ludicrously unqualified and massively dangerous new Director of National Intelligence. Trump just put Bill Pulte – the guy who has used mortgage data to launch investigations into Trump’s political enemies – in charge of the US intelligence community, where he’ll have access to 18 agencies’ surveillance data. There’s bipartisan opposition, and Congress has leverage to push for his removal. Email your Members of Congress and demand they act.
- On Tuesday, phonebank for Julie Gonzales, Indivisible’s endorsed candidate for Senate in Colorado (7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT). Gonzales is running to unseat a Democratic incumbent who has become a rubber stamp for Trump’s disastrous, unqualified nominees. She’s ready for new leadership, and so are we. Paid for by Indivisible Action. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.
- Next Monday, June 15, join our kickoff call for endorsed candidate Peggy Flanagan (MN-Sen) (8pm ET/5pm PT). Join Indivisibles across the country to hear from Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin about our plans to get Peggy Flanagan across the finish line in Minnesota's US Senate primary this August. Flanagan is a proven leader for working people, and we’re proud to stand with her in the fight against fascism. Paid for by Indivisible Action. Not authorized by any candidate or committee.
- Do some local organizing with Rise Up and Sing Out this Sunday. While Trump is holding his little birthday cage match, the Committee for the First Amendment will be counterprogramming with a nationally livestreamed night of joy, music, and action. The No Kings coalition is helping folks organize hundreds of watch parties to build hyperlocal organizing structures and grow existing groups. Host an event, find an event, or just tune in and participate in calls to action announced from the stage.
P.S. Indivisible continues to be on the frontlines defending our communities and democracy. But, for the first time since the election, we missed our fundraising goal last month. We can absolutely weather a slow month -- we’re not about to start sending ‘the sky is falling’ emails -- but over time (and especially heading into midterms), we need to make up some lost ground. So please chip in, if you can, to fuel our fight to defeat authoritarianism in America.
Leading with Inclusion: Solidarity Across LGBTQ+ Communities
Please join us next Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm ET/4pm PT for the next installment of our Solidarity in Action Speaker series, where we look at solidarity not just as a value to discuss, but as a practice to implement.
In June’s conversation, Leading with Inclusion: Solidarity Across LGBTQ+ Communities, we will celebrate the history, resilience, and leadership of LGBTQ+ communities, learn practical strategies for accountable allyship and inclusive leadership, examine the intersections of race, class, gender identity, and sexual orientation in shaping people’s experiences, and identify concrete steps we can take to build more affirming and effective movement spaces.
We will be joined by featured speaker Katie Blair, Vice President of Advocacy at PFLAG National, who has led national campaigns on LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare access, parental rights, and civil rights protections.
Register for June’s Solidarity in Action session on Tues, June 16 (7pm ET/4pm PT).

Indivisibles On the GroundOn Friday, Indivisible Charlotte joined organizers from the Carolina Migrant Network and Stop Detention Centers NC to protest proposed ICE facilities in Concord, Winton, and Greensboro. Indivisibles on the ground are demanding that lawmakers condemn detainment expansion and do everything within their power to keep ICE cruelty out of the state. On average, one person dies in ICE detention every week. By partnering with powerful immigrant justice organizations to halt ICE terror in North Carolina, local Indivisibles are joining thousands upon thousands of advocates across the country raising their voices against chaos, cruelty, and brutality. Across the country, even in red areas, activists have been successful in blocking facilities in their communities. Keep an eye out for more information from our Dismantling Detention campaign on how you can prepare for fights in your area. |
