The first public meeting of the Survivor’s Truth Commission took place on June 1, 2026. The meeting introduced the committee members, the commission's mission, testimony, and the legal team hired.

Representative Andrea Romero (D-Santa Fe), Representative William Hall (R-Aztec), Representative Andrea Reeb (R-Clovis), and Representative Marianna Anaya (D-Albuquerque) comprise the commission. Together, they bring backgrounds in the FBI, advocacy for abuse survivors, prosecution of crimes against children, and the study of other truth commissions. This commission will work independently from, but cooperatively with, the investigations underway by both the NM DOJ and the House Oversight Committee.

One of the main missions of this commission is to seek out and document the testimonies of witnesses and survivors of Epstein, particularly at Zorro Ranch (now San Rafael Ranch) in Santa Fe County. Treating survivors with sensitivity and respect will be a priority. Virginia Roberts Guiffre’s brother and sister-in-law, Sky and Amanda Roberts, were the first to openly address the commission.

Other parts of the group’s mission include rooting out institutional failures and financial crimes that enabled this exploitation. While the commission does not have the authority to prosecute anyone, it can recommend legislation to close loopholes in existing laws and subpoena individuals and institutions involved in the decades-long Epstein and Maxwell activity.

Fourteen subpoenas were announced - Epstein’s estate, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan Chase, the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, the New Mexico Department of Justice, the New Mexico governor’s office, the New Mexico State Land Commissioner, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department, and the Santa Fe Institute.

The responses to the subpoenas are expected by mid-July.
