Just like any other event that our Indivisible Santa Fe members enjoy, banner drops aren't any different. There's always more detail to the story you don't experience unless you are there.
While everyone gathers at the site a few minutes before the hour, and we meet new crew members, end up chatting about the days big story or what else Trump has done the night before on his social media site. There's endless material.
After the group deciding what banners they want to fly, we grab the banners and flags, talk about safety and taking care of the banners, split up and head to each side of the overpass. After carefully placing the banners over the edge, people find their positions holding the banner along the railing. Then, the FUN begins, as we try to engage with all the vehicles passing under that bridge. The reward, a honk. a wave or flashing lights or an occasional finger or two. (Note: we always feel we have accomplished our goal if we got a finger or thumbs down. That means we got to that person.) There's lots of conversation among the crew as we get to know one another more and build a sense of community.
The hour usually flies by...
Every drop is different but we always come away feeling that we accomplished something important. We just got the attention of a couple thousand motorists to think about the important messages that were subliminally planted in their minds.
Mission accomplished.
