Ivan Cornejo will visit Indivisible Santa Fe's weekly meeting on Monday, August 24, to talk about the work of the City of Santa Fe Immigration Committee. He has served on the Immigration Committee for over six years. Last year, the City Mayor appointed him as the Chair of the Committee.
Born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Ivan immigrated to New Mexico as a child. After graduating from UNM as a first-generation college student, he has focused on paying it forward, working in the education and nonprofit sector, advocating for the equity and inclusion of underserved students and families. Currently, he serves as the Director of the SFPS Adelante Program, which supports an average of 1,100 children each year who are experiencing homelessness and housing instability in the Santa Fe Public Schools.
As a co-founder of Puente de Amor and a board member of the Watersheds Foundation, Ivan also spends part of the year supporting orphanages in Mexico and overseeing water sanitation projects throughout East Africa.
