From time to time, I will post follow-ups to specific items mentioned at the previous Indivisible Santa Fe meeting. Recommended actions from June 23, 2025 meeting, below.

Protecting trans kids

Independent Women Forum is the right wing group that sponsored the covertly anti-trans event at Inn at the Loretto on June 23, 2023 in Santa Fe. The group's website, like its advertising for its bus tour, is misleading: it might seem to be a feminist organization at first, but dig a little deeper and it quickly becomes apparent that Independent Women Forum is anti-trans and hostile to New Mexico's protections for trans kids. In fact, Independent Women Forum is right wing across the board. More info about Independent Women Forum can be found here.

Indivisible Santa Fe encourages people to contact Molly Ryckman, VP of Sales & Marketing at Heritage Hotels and Resorts, which owns Inn at the Loretto, to voice your objection to their sponsorship of the Independent Women bus tour in Santa Fe. Ms. Ryckman's office phone number is 505-212-9142. Thanks to Scott for this information and the suggestion to call Ms. Ryckman.

Suggested script: Hello, I live in Santa Fe. When I am asked for recommendations for places to stay, I will be sure to tell people that the Inn at Loretto sponsored an anti-trans bus tour. Fortunately, there are numerous other options for those visiting Santa Fe, businesses that do not sponsor hate.

Protecting public lands

Thanks to Daphne for information and suggestions.

Now is the time to call Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Lujan to thank them for fighting to keep public lands public. Contact information for them is here.

Suggested script: Hello. I live in New Mexico; my zip code is _____ . Please give my thanks to Senator {Heinrich} {Lujan} for fighting against Republican efforts to sell off public lands. Please tell him I do not support any budget reconciliation bill that includes mandatory sales of public lands.

Other recommended calls:

  1. Senator Majority Leader John Thune. His D.C. Congressional office can be reached at (202) 224-2321.

Suggested script: Hello. As a U.S. {citizen} {resident}, I have a message for Majority Leader Thune. I live in New Mexico, a state rich in public lands. I strongly oppose any and all efforts to sell these off to private owners. Please block and remove any and all language from the Big Beautiful Bill Act that would authorize any such sale.

  1. Senator Mike Lee. His D.C. Congressional office can be reached at 202-224-5444. He is responsible for inserting the public lands sell-off provision in the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee budget reconciliation bill. Late on the night of June 23, he stated on social media that he is "revising" the provision to restrict the lands that can be sold off.

Suggested script: Hello, I live in New Mexico, a state rich in public lands. I understand that in response to criticism, you are revising your proposed provision ordering the sell off of much public land. This is good. But the only acceptable change is one that removes any mandatory sale of public lands from the Senate's budget reconciliation bill.
