From this link as of August 24, 2022.

Important Deadlines for the 2022 General Election:

Please Note: The online absentee portal for the 2022 General Election will be coming soon. Requests for absentee ballots for the general election can currently be made using the paper application.

  • October 11: Voter registration (by mail or online) closes.
  • October 11: First day that absentee ballots can be mailed to voters (who have submitted an absentee application), and first day of Early Voting (at the county clerk’s office).
  • October 22: Expanded Early Voting begins at alternate voting locations.
  • November 3: Last day to request an absentee ballot.
  • November 5: Last day of early voting.
  • November 8: General Election Day.

The following was based on the 2020 schedule but it gives an idea of the scheduling for our  November vote:   This will

be updated soon for accuracy.

Aug 31: Online application request begins at NMVote.org.

**Online application is fastest and most efficient way to apply.**

Sep 14: County Clerk will mail a paper application to every registered voter. (Not sure if this is true in 2022)  No need to wait for that. Drop off or mail your application now.  Make sure your application matches your voter registration info exactly, or it will be denied.

Oct 11: Absentee ballots will be mailed to all registered voters on this day.   Allow plenty of time to receive and return ballot. Drop off boxes are  more efficient than mail. Your ballot status can be tracked at  NMVote.org
