Our Messaging Is Evolving... and Staying the Same
Q: During the last election cycle, BlueCD2NM talked about political messaging with the “3-Vs:” Values, Villains and Vision, the Race-Class Narrative. Now you’re talking about “Protecting our Freedoms.” Do the two work together?
A: Yes! You can introduce the idea of protecting our freedoms by beginning with a value you have in common with someone. Research shows you’ll get closer to an emotional connection if you explicitly name differences between people when you mention that common value. So you could say,
“No matter where we come from or what’s in our wallet, most of us want the freedom to be who we are and to love who we love.”
Then mention a villain. Be specific and reveal the villain’s motivation:
“But some politicians want to take away our freedom. They want to put us in boxes and to divide us, because it keeps them in power.”
Then give people a way to imagine a positive future. End with a vision of how things might be different if they help make the future by voting.
“By coming together we can elect leaders who will help build the world we want to see, where everyone is accepted for who they are, no exceptions.”

Blue CD2 has a new Friends Co-ordinator!
Please Welcome Kathy Roark-Diehl
Kathy has been teaching for NMSU since 1990, first as an instructor of English at NMSU, Las Cruces; and then at NMSU Alamogordo. She retired as Professor Emerita in 2021.
Kathy has been looking for a way to help Democrats win in 2024. She lives in ultra-conservative Otero County and has been disheartened to see old acquaintances fall for the MAGA Lie.
Kathy is excited to be the Friends Coordinator for Blue CD2 New Mexico—an organization that has both impressed her and is giving her hope for Blue New Mexico!
Kathy is the person who will be organizing our volunteers and bringing in new people to Blue CD2. If you'd like to be more involved, you can sign up here.
We'll be hearing more from Kathy in the near future.
Please feel free to write to Kathy at:
Our Rachel Bitecofer Event was a great success.
We raised over $18,000!!
Rachel was in her top form, as always, talking about her
theory that using negative partisanship messaging will push back against Republican lies and misdirection. We had a great turnout and not just from New Mexico!
The money we raised from Rachel's event, along with the other events and birthdays this month mean our Good News Campaign and our Voter Registration Campaign are now funded. However, we're not reaching the entire district by any means, so we need to keep at it. The more dollars we raise, the more people we reach.
Gabe's 5 Immigration Bills
It's hard to break through a chaotic Congress, but Gabe has worked hard to bring some sense to the border. SO far this session, he's sponsored 5 bills"
1. The Humane Accountability Act aims to hold ICE detention centers accountable to protect detainees who experience injuries, sexual assault or die in detention and ensures that detainees have access to legal resources.
2. The Stop Coyotes Act boosts penalties for trafficking of minors and increases information sharing among Customs and Border Protection, ICE, and Congress.
3. Smart Border Protection Act invests in technology and personnel at the border, including non-intrusive inspection that can better detect drugs such as fentanyl. This technology will allow faster commercial inspections and will create jobs.
4. Strengthening Our Workforce Act would allow immigrants working in critical industries to apply for two-year temporary status to stay and work in the U.S. After working a minimum of 100 days within a two year period, in a critical industry, they would be eligible for permanent residence, subject to approval of Citizenship and Immigration Services.
5. Farm Workforce Support Act creates H-2A visa reform for agricultural workers.
