President Trump's Fiscal Year 2026 budget, released on June 2, 2024, proposed the elimination of federal funding for the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA). The proposal is both harmful and shortsighted, and the IAIA Board of Trustees and administration reject it. The proposed funding cut would end nearly 63 years of progress in higher education, artistic expression, and Congressional support for IAIA, the only institution of its kind globally. This reduction would lower IAIA's annual appropriation from $13 million to zero, marking the first time in nearly 40 years that IAIA would not receive federal support under Title XV.
