Please join us, Rural Indivisibles New Mexico (RINM) and Abiquiu/Youngsville Indivisible (AYI), for a day of rallying and community celebration.
by Dimid Hayes, Moderator of Rural Indivisibles New Mexico
For almost a year now we, a small group of rural New Mexicans, have rallied weekly along Highway 84 in Abiquiu. On Saturday, April 18th, we will be marking our anniversary with a rally, community lunch and celebration from 10 am to 2:30 pm. “The theme Reclaiming the Dream” comes from our founder’s role of marching with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.
Punching above our weight we have people stop from all around the country and the world thanking us for showing up and declaring, “Things are not all right.” Foreigners have expressed relief and support for our presence. Practicing “neighbor-ism,” as recently displayed in Minnesota and the campaign of Zohran Mamdani in New York City, we invite you as our neighbors to come and celebrate with us in beautiful Abiquiu (the valley of shining stone).
The rally will be from 10 to 11:30 am. Early birds will be greeted with coffee and donuts starting at 9:30. Mile marker 212 on Highway 84 is where you’ll find us. You can register (it will help with our planning) on Mobilize at this link: https://www.mobilize.us/ (our page is not live yet, but we will update it here when it is to register).
The lunch (12 noon to 1 pm) will be tenths of a mile away at the Abiquiu Inn, outdoors under the majestic cottonwood bosque. An optional lunch of salad, enchiladas and beverages will be offered for a sliding scale of $15-30.00 (more if you can, less if you can’t). A vegetarian option will be available. You can bring your own food, but this is not a potluck event. If you park at the Abiquiu Inn to start your day, there will be a shuttle to take you up the slight hill to the rally site or you can walk. Please car pool if you can.
The afternoon program, from 1-2:30 pm. will include several musical performances (sing-alongs and balladeers), a stand-up comedian, blessings and prayers, door prizes and introductions to some of New Mexico's finest local citizens. There will be tables for information sharing. (Let us know via the Mobilize registration link, if you plan to bring a table so we can be prepared for you; you’re welcome to bring merchandise to sell and information to share.)
In the day-to-day world we are all living in it is so important to be with those we cherish and respect, to be seen, to relax amongst those we toil with. We hope this event will be a time for you to reenergize, recommit and catch your breath. Reclaiming our collective and personal dreams awaits us.
Please come, take in the fresh country air and stunning skies. Bring a friend to make it even more memorable.
