Policy for Community Events
As written 21 July 2025
The following policy is provided for evaluating and approving requests for Indivisible Santa Fe (ISF) participation in and/or support for, community events. The ISF priority for allocation of resources for events are first, events primarily sponsored by Indivisible National, and second for those events sponsored by other organizations, either national or local.
We divide the requests for ISF support into three categories:
-Promotion;requests by outside organizations to announce events at our organization meetings and ask for ISF member participation.
-Support;requests which include the allocation of specific ISF resources, such as financial, volunteer, publicity and/or outreach.
-Sponsor; requests to organize, coordinate and lead the event.
Requests for participation in and/or support for events will initially be vetted by the ISF Events Committee. The ISF Steering Committee is responsible for the final approval of requests based on the following criteria, and is made in coordination with the Events Committee:
-Do the event and sponsoring organization align with ISF’s purpose and values, as well as the principles of our national organization?
-Does our support reflect our brand, i.e., the kind of organization we are and want to be?
-What resources, financial, communication and/or volunteer time and energy, will be required and how will this impact the ability of ISF to meet the stated purpose going forward?
-Do the benefits warrant the ISF resources required?
The above requests will be addressed as follows:
Requests for promotion of events
These requests may be evaluated and approved by a Steering Committeemember. The committee member should consult with other members and committee chairs as appropriate. The requester will complete a simple checklist about the event, its purpose and sponsors. ISF will not promote or support events without identified sponsors or organizations. Nor will ISF promote or sponsor events that call for unlawful actions. Announcement of events at organizational meetings will be limited to three minutes assuming there is time on the agenda. Requests for approval to speak about an event must be submitted to the steering committee one week in advance of the Monday meeting.
Requests for support and the provision of resources for events
These requests must be submitted initially to the Events Committee, which is tasked to vet the request and submit a recommendation to the Steering Committee. The requesting organization (s) will be asked to specify, in writing, the entire resources required, including event budget, as well as what resources the requesting organizations and others will provide. Requests for support and resources require ISF Steering Committee approval. The Steering Committee’s approval is based upon the criteria listed above, and is made in consultation with the Events Committee and Finance Committee as necessary.Requests for event support must be submitted at least three weeks in advance of the event.
Requests to sponsor events
First priority to sponsor an event will be given to events in which Indivisible National is a sponsoring organization and not a ‘partner organization.’
These requests are welcome but must be submitted initially to the Events Committee, which is tasked, together with the requesting organization, to identify and evaluate the full suite or resources and activities required to host or sponsor the event. The Events Committee will prepare a recommendation to the Steering Committee. The Committee’s approval is required based upon the criteria listed above. Requests for event sponsorship must be submitted at least four weeks in advance of the event.
Under exceptional circumstances and in responses to breaking news of national or statewide importance and with consensus of at least three members of the Steering Committee, ISF may approve any request on a tighter timeline than outlined in the aforementioned provisions.
