National purpose with local action

Next meeting: October 20 (🎉 celebrating No Kings 2.0)
Christ Lutheran Church
1701 Arroyo Chamiso Road, Santa Fe

No Kings 2.0 🚫👑 Woohoo, it's finally upon us 🎉 – No Kings 2.0 on Saturday. We have the energy! We have the signs! And we have the T-shirts! And it's going to be a March from Federal Plaza starting at 10 to Santa Fe Plaza then on to the Roundhouse for a community engagement Block Party 💃. It's happening across the country; the one in Santa Fe has Santa Fe Better Together on point. We'll have some tables set up to hand out No ICE posters, get our message out with some merch, and we'll have the Speakers' Corner up as well.

No Kings 2.0 This Saturday in Santa Fe
Action by action, day by day, group by group, Indivisible groups across the country are upholding our democracy.

And here's a good post from No Kings 1.0 to re-up:

Safety for you and others during peaceful protests
Important safety guidelines! A round-up of information, including materials from leading groups and organizations involved with civil protesting in the 21st century.

Upcoming Events

📣 Oct 18: Speakers' Corner

Since next Saturday is No Kings day, our Speakers' Corner will be set up at the Roundhouse (TBD exactly where... we're going to read the vibe and find a good spot; it sounds like there will be lots of opportunities to exercise your First Amendment rights 💙) Hope to see you there! See the recap from last Saturday which was rainy and cold but good fun nonetheless:

Speakers’ Corner Diary, Number 2
There is great empowerment to be had from standing up in public and speaking your mind. I saw it in the faces and heard it in the voices of those who did this on Saturday.

🎥 Oct 16: She Cried That Day Documentary

The film She Cried That Day, by documentary film maker Amanda Erickson, will be screened at the Santa Fe International Film Festival (SFiFF) on October 16th and 19th. The film is an important reminder to our government that Murdered and Missing Indigenous Woman have not been forgotten.

In addition to the screening, Amanda has asked us to join her at a Justice Rally on the steps of the Round House on October 16th at 3pm.   If you can, show up and wear a red shirt to show solidarity with these women.

Please join us as we honor the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives of New Mexico and the families that continue to fight for justice.

Oct 16: Supporting Immigrant Neighbors

HIAS, a refugee protection organization, is holding a webinar at 2:00 MT tomorrow supporting the collective power of solidarity. Join to hear from leaders and other voices on how to help defend against authoritarian tactics.

Values in Action: Accompanying and Supporting Our Immigrant Neighbors
Welcome the stranger. Protect the refugee.

Oct 25: Election Day Observation Training

The Carter Foundation is running the OBSERVE NEW MEXICO ELECTIONS project in New Mexico again this year (see the 2024 Final Report for an idea of what they do). They are holding training on October 25 in Santa Fe and are looking for more Election Day (Nov 4) observers; there is a stipend available as well. If you're interested, you can sign up here for more information: ONME Nonpartisan Election Observer Application.

Election integrity is something we have to defend since the suspicion of fraud is a weapon of the regime to undermine actual elections.

Nov 9: Meet & Greet

Greater Eldorado Together Indivisible (GET) and Eldorado Area Dems is having their first Democratic Candidate Meet & Greet of the 2026 Primary season. Come meet Matthew McQueen (NM Land Commissioner) and Sarah Boses (NM House 50). RSVP now, space is limited!

Rep. Matthew McQueen Fundraiser
Please join us for an evening fundraiser for our Representative Matthew McQueen. He’s been an effective voice for our district and has been a solid advocate on environmental issues. Matthew is running against a MAGA Republican from Edgewood. He needs our support to ensure victory in November. Please RSVP now for event details.

Democracy under attack

Right-wing groups are pressuring the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to require a passport or other citizenship documentation in order to vote. They've generated more than 200,000 comments to the EAC. If they get their way, it will disenfranchise millions of people – disproportionately women since they often have a name change.

Register your own comment here – you can use something like this if you like:

I’m against requiring citizens to submit a passport, birth certificate, or other citizenship documents to register to vote! Only half of American citizens have a passport and 69 million American citizens don’t have a birth certificate with their current legal name on it, most of them women who changed their names when they got married.

(There are other short comment suggestions available for inspiration in this doc.)

And resistance is building

Cafes, restaurants across Chicago put up signs barring immigration agents
For restaurant and cafe workers, many of whom are immigrants, the looming threat of unannounced visits by ICE has created anxiety and uncertainty about their future.

Dispatches from the Indivisible Santa Fe desk

Pass the 2025 Living Wage ordinance
The original Living Wage, passed in 2003, had an exemption for 25 employees or less and it created a huge problem.
Book Review: Careless People, A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism
Several years ago I did a talk show—live on Facebook!—with my university interns from different Asian countries. The topic was whether social media, including Facebook, overall did more harm or good. They were firmly on the side of good. I would love to have them read Careless People.

Committee Desk

What's going on in Indivisible Santa Fe committees

  • Collaboration and Outreach – has been reaching out to organizations about tabling at No Kings 2.0 and leafleting at SFCC to promote the event.
  • Healthcare – At the Monday meeting a 13 page document was available giving members the names of the legislators and asks for the following issues in the upcoming session: Compacts/Medical malpractice/GRT. If you did not get a copy and would like one email Jane@proton.me. Also if you have a personal story about healthcare in NM and would like to speak in front to one of the committees or on the floor, you can include that in an an email.
  • Fundraising – the second order of T-shirts came in, we're helping Indivisible Los Alamos distribute their yard signs, and we've ordered some stickers as well. We'll have a table at No Kings 2.0, probably near the No ICE table. Beyond fundraising, our merch is also great for raising awareness and starting conversations about saving democracy.

(October 13 newsletter)

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

We typically don’t send our Monday newsletter on holidays like today, but with No Kings Day in less than a week, we just gotta fill you in on important prep and training calls. So today's update is a shortened one -- no intro from Ezra, no newsy explainers, just your to-dos and some key links.

If you happen to like this shortened take on our weekly updates + actions, click here to get a condensed version (i.e. no intro, straight to to-dos!) each Monday. Or if you enjoy seeing Ezra’s thoughts in your inbox to start each week, just keep reading; we’ll be back to normal programming next Monday.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team

Your weekly to-dos

  1. Find a No Kings protest to join this Saturday -- and help make October 18 the biggest day of peaceful protest in modern US history. We have even more events planned on Saturday than we did for the first No Kings Day in June, putting us on track for a truly historic day of defiance! Make your plan to join today, and then invite a few people to join you.
  2. Check out the No Kings training + resource library to make your local event big, safe, and successful! All week long, Indivisible and our partners are preparing you for No Kings Day with calls/trainings covering everything from event promotion, to strategic organizing, to safety and de-escalation.
  3. Email your Democratic senator(s) and tell them to hold the line in this Trump Shutdown showdown. So far, all but three Senate Dems and Independents -- Cortez Masto, Fetterman, and King -- have held the line against Trump's dangerous budget. We need to let them know we’re behind them as long as they keep fighting hard!
  4. Volunteer for a virtual phonebank to help Dems win big in Virginia this fall. We’re making 1,000,000 calls to voters to help VA Democrats build a vital defense against Trump’s authoritarian overreach -- a Democratic trifecta in his own backyard! All you need is your phone and a computer. Join a live phonebank training here.
