This Saturday, No Kings III will be a celebration of Democracy and Community, highlighting the Constitution and organizations that uplift and support New Mexicans.

We will emphasize human rights and present some of the founding principles in the Constitution translated to modern English by members of the NAACP, The Human Rights Alliance, Veterans for Peace, Ivan Cornejo, and by Teresa Leger Fernandez, among others.

There will be music! We recognize the importance of music in the Civil War, the Civil Rights movement and the anti-Vietnam protests. Singing unites us and releases both endorphins and oxytocin. We need to be attentive to the positive emotion of joy as we endure the daily (hourly?) horrors of this Washington cabal. The Estonians overthrew Soviet domination by singing patriotic songs in the streets. See their story in the 2006 documentary “The Singing Revolution.” We will be singing songs of resistance and hope, both historic and modern, between the snippets of wisdom in our original document. Led in song by our dynamic emcee Brian Johnson, we will also have a live Santa Fe Band, “We Make Fire!”

There will be tables staffed by local partners. Contigo/Dreamers, The ACLU, the Santa Fe City Immigration Advisory Group, St. Bede's, the League of Women Voters, Veterans for Peace, Food and Water Watch Taos, Third Act, Democratic Party of Santa Fe County, Indivisible SOS, indivisible GET, Democratic Socialists, National Organization for Women Santa Fe, Noise for NOW, Teresa Leger Fernandez, City of Santa Fe Immigration Advisory committee, New Energy Economy, ISF Immigration committee, Interfaith Alliance, (overpass) Banner Brigade, Eldorado Democrats, and 350 Santa Fe.

We are blessed to live in a blue New Mexico where our legislature just created an Office of New Americans as part of Workforce Solutions. “New Americans" is such a beautiful, welcoming phrase and infinitely better than the ugliness spewed by the current federal government. Let’s make “New Americans” go viral!

We know that people are anxious to DO SOMETHING as we watch our Democracy be weakened daily. Rally goers will be invited to take action by wearing and using shrill whistles that have proven effective in Chicago and Minneapolis.

Another form of action is to visit the tables of our partner organizations - and support the ones that most align with your interests and passions with your time, energy and money. These folks work hard every day in New Mexico to improve the lives of us all, especially marginalized communities - by working for justice, equality and freedom. Another crucial action is to vote in the upcoming primary and general elections. The Democratic Party of Santa Fe County and the League of Women Voter’s tables will both be registering new voters. Be a Voter! VOTE LOUD!! This is the most consequential action of all to reject this evil regime.

Spending any time and energy hating and ranting about the current regime is a black hole.

Please join us for an uplifting day of action and community in Santa Fe.
